In the
last week of January CULI staff will be engaged in a 4-day
seminar on the application of a learning outcomes approach
to instruction. The key speaker will be Professor Denise
Murray. She is Professor Emeritus at Macquarie University
and at San Jose State University, California. Her research
interests centre around computer-assisted language learning;
cross-cultural literacy; use of L1 in the second language
classroom; intersection of language, society and technology;
settlement of adult immigrants; language education policy;
and leadership in language education.
Staff will also be addressed by Assistant Professor Kalaya
Tingsabadh and by Associate Professor Dr. Sripen Supapidhayakul,
Director of General Education. The seminar will examine
the reasons for an outcomes approach, look at creating an
outcomes-based curriculum and investigate the assessment
of learning outcomes. The seminar will run from Monday January
25 to Thursday January 28. The opening day will be at the
Novotel Hotel in Siam Square.
