Symposium on Transforming Thai Education Using the Vygotsky Approach

Chulalongkorn University Language Institute (CULI) and the University of New Mexico (UNM), USA, co-hosted the Symposium on Transforming Thai Education Using the Vygotsky Approach at the Mandarin C Room, Mandarin Hotel, Rama IV Road, Bangkok, from October 17 to 18, 2025. The symposium was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Jirada Wudthayagorn, Director of CULI, and was further honored by the presence of Professor Emeritus Dr. Holbrook Mahn and Associate Professor Dr. Margo Collier, representatives from UNM, who delivered keynote lectures on a variety of topics, including:
- Enhancing educational quality through Vygotsky’s theory
- Education for students with special needs
- The integration of education and human consciousness theories, including artificial intelligence (AI)

The symposium served as a platform for dialogue on the development of Thai education, aiming to raise awareness of Vygotsky's concepts—namely the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and scaffolding—among Thai educational institutions. These concepts are recognized as key drivers of both policy reform and practical transformation. The event also brought together educators, scholars, and researchers from across the country and abroad, totaling 60.
